Black mould (Stachybotrys and similar species) releases spores linked to respiratory irritation, worsened asthma and allergic reactions.
Children, elderly residents and anyone with an existing respiratory condition are most at risk.
Painting over mould does not remove it — the spores remain active under the paint and grow through within weeks.
The only permanent fix is to identify the moisture cause, treat with a professional antimicrobial, and control ventilation.
